![]() Stress at Work
Stress at work is different for every individual and can be triggered by a number of day-to-day events. It can start with pressures at home, a difficult journey into work, followed by many other pressures such as deadlines, meetings, office politics, increased workload, difficult boss, difficult colleagues or even a job you don’t really like any more. These stresses lead to frustration, which can in turn lead to poor work performance and problems with relationships both at work and at home. A relaxed person is much more likely to be able to deal with all these pressures without getting too stressed. Stress is the adverse reaction people have to excessive pressure. It is not a disease! However, if stress is intense and carries on for some time, it can lead to mental and physical ill health including, heart disease, nervous breakdown and depression. Work stress, recently published by the government can be seen from this link. Up to 13.4 million days a year are lost due to stress at work. In an effort to try to combat this, the HSE has issued a stress code which companies must abide by. There are simple things that you can do to try and stay calm at work:
